(Sudan National Project, the Missing Link (5-5

As we mentioned in our previous part (4) of the article no country can be administered or governed without a national project and a national democratic constant constitution, Sudan is an exception. Sudan is the only country in the world that has neither national project or constant constitution. It is administered and ruled according to discretions and moods of the ruling parties or military regimes. No clear vision, no clear mission, no clear strategic goals, no clear strategies or policies, and no clear principles and values, and no clear anything, just a leap into the dark. Such a country will never move an inch to anywhere or direction. The miserable situation that Sudanese people are experiencing now is a justifiable by-product of this bad political leadership and bad governance.

In the previous article we cited the five key pillars or components of an ideal national project, namely; Problem Statement, Vision Statement, Mission Statement, Strategic Goals Statement, and Principles and Values Statement. We sufficiently illustrated two of them, namely; Problem Statement, and Vision Statement. We said Problem Statement is about doing situational or contextual analysis in order to identify the issues that challenge the nations of the country. We, as well, said Vision Statement is about envisioning the desired future of the concerned nations, it is about the big picture of the nations’ dream. It is about the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

In this part (5) of the article I will try to briefly shed some light on the other three pillars of the ideal national project. I begin with Mission Statement.

It is said that there are two important events or days in the life of every one of us; the first event is the day you are born, the second event is the day you discover why you are born, your mission on earth. It is unfortunate, that very many of the Sudanese people do not know the purpose behind their being, and the mission behind their existence, whereas some others discover their respective missions and purposes in life very late, when it is too late. Knowing your mission in life is an entry point for your type of contribution. So the question, what is our collective mission as nations of Sudan in life? What is our joint purpose of our existence in life? If you, as an individual, have no mission or purpose, by common sense you, jointly, will have no mission so you become a heavy burden on others in life.

Mission Statement is conceptualized as the practical part of the Vision Statement. It is the purpose that all Sudanese people stand for. Mission Statement tells you how and what you are going to do to deliver your vision. Mission Statement answers four crucial questions, namely; who are you? What is the purpose behind your existence? Who do you serve? And how do you serve them? By answering these four questions the representatives of the Sudanese nations will be able to successfully compose the Mission Statement of their national project. It is known that behind any mission there is a vision and that behind any national project there is a theory of change. With regard to the national project theory of change we will try to specify an article or space to it because it needs some in-depth details and illustrations. In a nutshell, for any intervention there is a theory of change. Having developed their shared mission, the Sudanese nationals, through their representatives, will mobilize and pool their talents, efforts, insights, knowledge, and resources in order to help the incumbent ruling democratic government to make this mission of the national project happen.

On the other hand, the political parties will develop their own respective missions which should, of necessity, be in line and not in contrast with the national project’s mission, this, as well, applies to their respective visions, meaning that political parties’ respective visions should not be in contrast but rather in line with the national project’s vision. Contradiction of visions and missions are not allowed. The common denominator is that, they are all national visions and missions and that they are all complementing each other toward achieving the bigger shared vision and mission of the nations of Sudan. No contradiction, no contrast, no competition but complement and cooperation.

The space will not allow me to cover the other two pillars, namely; the Strategic Goals Statement and the Principle and Values Statement, hence, I will add another part (6) in order to cover them and summarize the entire article
