Finally,… the long-awaited decision has been declared by U.S. Department of State On Monday, 9 March 2026 announcing that Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood (SMB) is designated a Global Terrorist. The decision came a bit late nevertheless better late than never. Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) and many other peace-loving Sudanese national forces and entities had been craning their necks towards WASHINTON in order to hear such a good news. This news has relieved and gladdened the hearts of so many Sudanese people particularly those who have lost their beloved during the notoriously bloody period of Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood’s rule. Almighty God has responded to the supplications of the oppressed particularly; the women, widows, children, elderly, and the vulnerable. It is not a secret fact that relentless national effort and persistent impetus of many national forces, inside and outside the country have been made to make this decision come true. Hence, Sudanese nations must take advantage of this rare opportunity. They must bury their political differences as quickly as possible in order to help themselves get amalgamated into one giant nation and the diverse national conflicting armed forces into one formidable national army with one national creed and dogma and under one national flag and with one national anthem.
Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood (SMB) comprises the Sudanese Islamic Movement and its armed wing ‘al-Barra Bin Malik Brigade’. it is this armed wing ‘al-Barra Bin Malik Brigade’ that has committed atrocious, barbaric, and brutal crimes against civilians in the capital, Khartoum, in Darfur, great Kordofan, Aljazira, Sinja, Sinnar, Kasala and in so many other areas across the country. They must be held accountable for the entire atrocities and crimes that they have committed during their rule of the country
Sudanese people have kept looking forward to such a decision from the United States of America as a necessary step and entry point for ending this ongoing nonsensical and futile war. Designation of Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood (SMB) as Global Terrorist is a real prerequisite toward a durable stability and giant step for stopping the bloodshed in this bleeding country. Undoubtedly, this decision will raise widespread questions about its political dimensions and potential repercussions on the future of the political landscape in Sudan. Nevertheless, Sudanese nations, through their togetherness and oneness, can overcome this obstacle.
It is known that when an entity is designated as a terrorist entity, it faces severe, multi-faceted consequences designed to dismantle its operational capabilities, cut off funding, and isolate it from the international community.
The following consequences simultaneously follow such a designation:
Financial and Asset Controls
Asset Freezes: Banks and financial institutions are required to freeze all funds, accounts, and economic resources held by the group.
Blocking Transactions: The U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and similar international bodies block transactions, making it illegal to move money, goods, or services to or from the entity.
Seizure of Property: Resources belonging to the entity are considered “terrorist property” and are liable to be seized by authorities.
Legal and Criminal Consequences
Criminalization of Support: Providing “material support or resources” – which includes money, training, expert advice, lodging, or transportation—to the designated group becomes a serious criminal offense.
Long-term Imprisonment: Individuals (including sympathizers or members) found supporting the entity could face substantial fines and up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment if the support results in death.
Broadened Investigation: The designation authorizes government agencies to utilize intense surveillance and intelligence resources against the group and its associates.

Travel Bans: Members and representatives of the group are generally banned from entering countries where they are listed, and they may have passports revoked.
De-platforming: Social media companies and internet service providers often remove content, accounts, and online material related to the group.
Arms Embargoes: International bodies often enforce bans on selling or providing weapons to the entity.

Reputational Damage: The designation legitimizes the movement as a pariah, making it difficult to operate publicly, attract new members, or gather support.

This decision will doubtlessly have its serious impacts on the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood entity. These impacts will extend to its political, economic, social and military interfaces which have been paralyzing the entire joints of Sudanese structures and institutions for more than thirty years in which they went rampage on all aspect of life of Sudanese people rendering the country’s potential crippled and dysfunctional nationally, regionally, and internationally. This joy will be incomplete until all their interfaces are dismantled and dismembered.
America, through her democratic institutional procedures, has fully and successfully played her role, the question is; what are the joint roles and mission that the Sudanese civil societies, national peace-loving forces, revolutionary movements, and political forces have to embark on in order to nip in the bud this vicious evil once and for good? I honestly feel unoptimistic. Sudanese entities are not accustomed to getting united. They are accustomed to disappointing Sudanese nations since the independence of the Sudan. It is just one final nail that remains in the coffin of political Islamism. Nevertheless, Sudanese political entities, as usual, are either hesitant or reluctant to jointly do it. Political will is a challenge in Sudan. It is always in short supply.
